SPEL Phase 2 – Day 2 ( Jagran College of Arts, Science and Commerce)
On the second day of the SPel Phase 2 program, student participants, including Aanya Yadav and Ashutosh Tiwari from Jagran College of Arts, Science, and Commerce, explored the internal structure and functioning of police stations.
The session began with an overview of how a police station (thana) operates. Students learned that each thana typically oversees 4 to 6 outposts (chaukis), although this number may vary depending on the area. They were introduced to the key roles within a police station, including the Station House Officer (SHO), Additional SHO, and SSI/SI.
Participants also gained knowledge about the Commissionarate Police System, which is implemented in urban areas like Kanpur for more efficient law enforcement and crime management.
In addition, students were educated on crucial legal topics such as the Right to Private Defense under the Indian Penal Code and laws related to dowry protection, enhancing their awareness of citizens' rights and the legal safeguards available, especially for women.
The day was both informative and empowering, giving participants a clearer understanding of law enforcement structures and essential legal protections.
