SPEL Phase 2 – Day 3 ( Jagran College of Arts, Science and Commerce)
On 28th April 2025, the third day of the SPEL Phase 2 program focused on deepening participants' understanding of legal and procedural aspects of policing in India.
The day began with an introduction to Police Laws, followed by detailed discussions on the Indian Penal Code (IPC), Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), and the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). These sessions helped participants understand the structure and evolution of India’s criminal justice system.
The concept of “What constitutes a crime” was also addressed, enabling participants to distinguish between various types of offenses. A practical session on writing formal applications provided valuable insight into filing complaints and communicating with legal authorities.
Additionally, the group learned about the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS)—a national initiative aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency in policing.
Further, participants were introduced to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, raising awareness about animal welfare laws. The roles and responsibilities of Day Officers and Night Officers were also explained, giving a comprehensive view of police duty rotations.
The session was rich in knowledge and practical learning, empowering participants with a better understanding of policing and law enforcement in India.
