Institute of Legal Studies has been established at UIET-IV building of Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University campus in year 2017. Institute was inaugurated by Hon’ble Governor Shri Ram Naik ji on 05 October 2017 in presence of the respected former Vice-Chancellor Professor J.V. Vaishampayan.

Now Institute has its own building. New building was inaugurated by Hon’ble President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind. He has also been alumni of The Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University. Institute of Legal Studies has been established to provide higher education in the field of Law in Kanpur. For the first time LL.M. (Master of Laws) 2 years course has been introduced in Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj campus. Institute has well-furnished class rooms with departmental library. Institute has its own new building named Atal Bihari Vajpayee School of Legal Studies.

In 2021, B.A.LL.B. (HONS) has been introduced. This is five-year integrated course. Also, from year 2022 onwards Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University is going to open new course of B.B.A. LL.B. (HONS.) five years degree programme.

Applicant who has successfully completed their Graduation in Law (LL.B. Three Year) or Integrated Law Course (LL.B. Five Year) from a recognized University in India or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that country for the purpose of issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course.

Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission shall not below 50% of total marks.

** Admission Shall be given on the basis of entrance examination conducted by the university or merit list based on marks obtained Graduation in Law, as per decided by the university.
B.A. L.L.B.
Duration : 5 Years
Annual Fee : 60,200/-
Eligibility : Applicant who has successfully completed their Senior Secondary School (10+2) or equivalent (Such as 11+1, “A” level in Senior School Leaving Certificate course) examination from a recognized University in India or outside or from a Senior Secondary Board or equivalent constituted or recognized by the Union or by a State Government or from any equivalent institution from a foreign country recognized by the Government of that country for the purpose of issue of qualifying certificate on successful completion of the course.

However, the applicant who have obtained 10+2 or Graduation/Post-graduation through open Universities System directly without having any basic qualification for pursuing such studies shall not be eligible for admission to 5-year B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) Course.

Minimum marks in qualifying examination for admission shall not below 50% of total marks in case of General category applicants, 45% in case of OBCs and 40% in case of SCs & STs applicant.
