Chemical Engineering involves the design, development and operation of complex processes, which safely and efficiently produce products with minimum of environmental impact. Chemical Engineers have traditionally played a key role in industries such as petroleum processing, fertilizers, energy, food, agriculture, polymers, synthetic fibers, pharmaceuticals, ceramics, gases, consumer products and specialty chemicals.

Graduate Chemical engineers would be usually employed as process engineers, process supervisors, quality control supervisor, production managers, process development engineer, product development scientist, equipment design engineer, pollution control engineer, safety engineer etc. in synthetic chemical manufacture industries such as petroleum, petrochemicals, fertilizers, synthetic fibers, paint and natural product industries such as food, edible oil, sugar and distilleries. Many chemical engineers can find jobs in consultancy, technical purchase, procurement and marketing of chemicals and equipment. Many opt for higher studies such as M.Tech. and Ph.D. after B.Tech. and become eligible to peruse career in academics and research. Now days there are good opportunities in emerging sectors of renewable energy, nuclear energy, and environment sectors.
